Clippers search for success in Utah

Basketball Betting Lines

02/01/2012 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Los Angeles Clippers hope to record a season-high fourth consecutive win tonight by turning around their fortunes in Utah.

Playing the Jazz in Salt Lake City has traditionally been a non-starter for the Clips. LA has dropped an astounding 43 of its last 44 trips to Utah but this is a far different Clippers team now that All-Star Chris Paul has been brought in to team with reigning Rookie of the Year Blake Griffin.

Paul scored 26 points and dished out 14 assists on Monday while Griffin added 22 points and seven rebounds, as the Clips jumped out early and rolled past the Western Conference-leading Oklahoma City Thunder, 112-100, at Staples Center.

Caron Butler also added a season-best 22 points, while Chauncey Billups donated 13 and Mo Williams posted 12. Los Angeles made 13 treys one game after making 14, both part of a three-game winning streak.

"They're a good team, the best we've played all year," Thunder head coach Scott Brooks said of the Clippers. "They had their way in all parts of the game."

Griffin also went viral with an incredible monster jam over OKC's Kendrick Perkins.

"We can't say that we've arrived after this game," Paul told the team's website. "We're going to look at the film and there's still a lot of things we've got to clean up, but like I keep saying it's a great win for us especially with a young team like this."

One area the Clips must improve in is winning on the road. LA is an impressive 10-2 at Staples Center but just 2-4 as the visitor, although one of those wins came in their last encounter away from home against playoff-bound Denver.

Recording a win in Utah, where the Jazz are 10-3 this season would really send a message.

Utah's latest win at EnergySolutons Arena came on Monday when Gordon Hayward came up big on the defensive end late in regulation and hit the clinching free throws in the waning seconds, as the Jazz came back and defeated the Trail Blazers, 93-89.

Paul Millsap finished with 19 points and 15 rebounds for the Jazz, who rallies from an 11-point second-half deficit despite being without injured starters Al Jefferson (ankle) and Raja Bell (right adductor).

C.J. Miles chipped in 15 points off the bench, while Devin Harris and Josh Howard contributed 13 and 11 points, respectively, in Utah's second straight win.

"I'm really proud of this entire group," Jazz head coach Tyrone Corbin said. "There's no quit in this group of guys."

Bell is expected to remain out tonight while Jefferson has been listed as doubtful.

The Clippers last win in Salt Lake City was on Jan. 22, 2003, a 96-89 triumph.

NFL Football Betting : Odds on NFL Division to Win the Super Bowl

NFL Super Bowl Betting

The AFC South and the NFC East are the favorite divisions to have the next Super Bowl champ among them in the NFL betting odds. But more down to the point, these football odds are in favor of the Indianapolis Colts, by far the strongest team in the AFC South, and the Dallas Cowboys of the NFC East.

Most sports fans would agree that these two teams top the list to win it all before the season even begins. In the BetUS Sportsbook football futures, the Colts are +800 in the odds to win the Super Bowl, while the Cowboys are sitting at +1000 and the Super Bowl XLIV champions New Orleans Saints at +900. In the AFC South, the Colts won the division for five straight years after the 2002 realignment, before the Tennessee Titans won it in 2008. But the Colts came back strong in 2009 to win the division again en route to the Super Bowl. The Cowboys are the favorite to win the NFC East, as well as to advance far into the post season. The Cowboys won the division last season before their horrendous loss in the NFC Divisional playoff to Brett Favre and the Minnesota Vikings. But the ‘Boys will take that loss humbly and be ready for the playoffs this time around.

The NFC South is also very strong, at +600 in the NFL futures, considering that it is home to the defending Super Bowl champions. However, some predictions have the Atlanta Falcons with possibilities of claiming the divisional title this season in place of the Saints, as no team has won back-to-back division championships since the division realignment took place. Let’s not overlook the AFC North at +500. As TO goes to Cincinnati to join Chad OchoCinco and Adam “Pac-Man” Jones, this team looks to claim the division title again. And it is likely they will do so. The Bengals lost in the AFC Wild Card spot in a hard-fought battle against the New York Jets last season. Lest not forget the Pittsburgh Steelers, the XLII Super Bowl Champions… All these teams present interesting odds and matchups for the upcoming season, but the safest and surest bet seems to be with the Colts in the AFC South and the Cowboys in the NFC East.
